The Dinner

Date: 2nd October 2008
Time: 7.15 pm (WIB) onwards.
Venue: Hotel Kapuas Cafe

I reached my room almost 6:15 PM local time. My other half was in the room as she didn't joined the Udung. You know lah ladies, City tour mean going to the city mall. We got ready for the dinner to be held at the Kapuas Hotel. Not long after, we were at the lobby, dressed smartly in my Bidayuh suit for the dinner. Some of our fellow friends were in their respective costumes. Wonderboyz looked like Sultan Serian, Redline, Kutieng, and Nicholas Amin were in their striking red/black Bidayuh vests and so was Jihem. As for Bar_guarding, he dressed casually, the way he liked it best. Others were in their batik, but most were traditionally attired looking like princes and princesses. The Bidayuh females all looked sparkling and they were all winners.

Kittie and Peggy poised before dinner at the hotel lobby.

Ms Kutieng, Kittie and MBSY.

Kaddy and Peggy.

SBGA Vice President Mr Nicholas Amin and Pemanca Austin Dimin having a chat with other diners.

Mr. Salam bersalaman with Antoinette, and Ms Wes was dreaming.

Paul Shannon, Bar_guarding and Jihem.

Everyone was waiting for the arrival of guests.

Dr John Brian discussing with others.

Right here waiting.

KK Kpg Semebak Mr. Richard Laut and KK Kpg Sembuh Mr Jurin Semang.

SDNU President Mr. Mengga Mikiu with MDAD President.

Also waiting.

Amongst the Bidayuh males, wonderboyz was the most elaborately costumed, completed with "Dayakised" head gear laced with beads and other ornamentals he had just purchased during daytime at Betang. He looked so regal. Bar_guarding installed him as the "Sultan of Pontianak, Kapuas Hotel branch" for the night. He obliged willingly and his smile was all over.

Wonderboyz was wondering whether his title "Sultan of Pontianak, Kapuas Hotel branch" could be permanent or not. Bar_guarding restored him as the Sultan that nite.

Jihem looked a bit shy while waiting for dinner to be served. Well, I knew that his front tooth was missing so that was why dia senyum kambing saja. Or probably he was missing his goats!. A successful entreprenuer in goat rearing. If you want to know more on how to rear goat on the beach, you can consult him. [Kambing dia]

Wilfred Kutu aka STORM CLOUD was waiting for his dinner to be served. "Kapan mau makan sih, lama Benér. My Indian tribe normally don't make a chief wait!”

Nancy also waiting for food, she's hungry.... but still willing to smile.

Different faces of hunger

Time: 7:30PM Local Time [Malaysian 8:30PM], One-Hour different, faces tell all.

Cikgu Kutong ak Enggang make himself busy with his video cam.

Ms Peggy also trying to be busy. Go through his camera as well.

Cikgu Wes ak Mirid thinking of home already

Blank? Other part of the world....ya Pak Kutieng?

You don't have to show your teeth lah... We know that you haven't eaten. "Aaaahhhh .. Belum ngocok lagi ba"

He clap his hand to agree checking on Bar_guarding mouth.

Waiting for food really make people do all sort of thing. Here Bar_guarding show his way with a lady hand-bag. I pay 2 cent for the act!

Nah.... kan dah di marahin oleh si Nancy... pak!. Kenapa mesti diambilnye catas tangan nye?

Combo pictures of Nancy trying to avoid Bar_guarding camera flash.

As usual, Redline and Kutieng were strapped to their cameras though they looked more like Bidayuh princes in their costumes rather than those "wanna be reporters". Bar_guarding was not to be outdone by these two "professional photographers" with their cameras. We all went around to shake hands with everyone in attendance, showering them with smiles and gestures of friendships.

Costume for the night.

Redline with his red line bidayuh vest.

Swisserikin with both  Malaysia and Indonesia costume in one. 2-in-1? Integration?

MBSY's tailor design suit and Kittie.

The bidayuh ladies with their costume, while the indonesian dayak on their batik dress. While the other two on the the side are their body guard lah.

Kaddy wearing his custom design shirt. I know he's the CUSTOM director. Shirt also he direct to customized

Nicholas Amin, Vice President of SBGA.

Dr John Brian, Publisity Chief of SDNU.

Mr Mengga Mikui, President of SDNU.

Our guests at dinner were our hosts at Betang just a few hours ago. When dinner started, we were entertained by the resident karaoke singers, whom to my ears, sang better than many Malaysian singers.

Ready to serve, they won't belong standing there.

When this comes, the waiter are gone and firstly take the sup.

After that the rice.

Put all the foods that was displayed on the buffet table to your plate.

One at the time.

Emm... yummy.

After the ladies, gentlemen turn.

Fruits also available as appetizer.

But soon after, I saw the "Sultan of Pontianak, Kapuas Hotel branch" was itching for something. Wonderboyz really has a nice voice as he does his practice at The Shelter almost every Friday nights and weekends. Only he can outdone the one-piece-band with his Dangdut songs. Well, his first number for the night was "Kampung Love" by the Acid Rain. He sang it better with his body and face expression. Menusuk jiwa! He represented us and sang a few more numbers, and it was fantastic. Then Redline joined the fray with his duet with Alim, and came a guest to make threesome with Redline.

Eating time, alone!.

So went a few others trying their talents at the microphone.  As for the others they cheered, and "our official photographer" busy lah taking pictures.

They are all winners in their own category of song.

I didn't sing nor dance that night. As usual, when Kaddy and I seated on the table, the flow of "Teh Buih" tasted better and better. We consumed the Beer and Stout that night. After a while, the bartenders refused to take anymore of our orders. Not because we could not afford to pay in rupiah, or the danger of getting overdosed, but simply they went out of stock. Seldom do I hear a hotel running out of stock on beer. I was a bit frustrated because in the middle of enjoying ourself, the stock finished. Anyway, we continued with Chivas whisky to finish the night. A shot of chivas cost me RP50,000 at the hotel. I went for double shot! I ordered for Kaddy too. I was almost running out of Rupiah, but luckily our Financial advisor, Ms Peggy had lots of reserved. I exchanged a few hundreds RM with her to pay my Beer and Chivas whisky.

Most of our Indonesian guests could really sing nice and beautiful songs with their original voices. No wonder Malaysian artists cannot penetrate Indonesian market with their songs and CDs.

He try to emulate Harry Acid Rain lah... Nak jadi "Kampung Love Part 3" but "Kapung Luv, jadi dia..." perasan Wonderboyz ya.... Harry tak pegang dia punya tekak lah dan ada penari di belakang dia.. You punya mane? Nevermind maybe next time.

In between those songs, Bar_guarding and a few others danced with their joget moves. Bar_guarding with his ONLY style of dancing like at the Betang. He really needed a bigger space to dance. Unlike others, small area could do. So the next time Bar_guarding comes to your dinner function, make sure the dance floor is big! He likes to measure the floor area.  He tried to pull me to the dance floor but I didn't feel like dancing or berjoget. I felt rather comfortable seating and watching my "Teh Buih".

Redline sing a few numbers

See Redline is the most terror singer of all. He's the only one who sing without seeing the lyric.

And he dances.

He sing the chorus with mighty voice power!

Move aside... I tell where you should be singing... not "Omm Woo..ooo.." Redline said to the guest singer in blue with his eyes closed.

Wonderboyz the wonderful

The winning duet singer of the night. A perfect couple.

Wonderboyz  REDEEMS himself by displaying it on his T-Shirt...

Lets me choose the song. You follow, OK.

What happen to this guy? I should be singing first. 'Ngak apa deh.... nanti dia ku hamtem ngan suara lunak gue'.

This is our song "Semalam di Malaya (Pontianak)".

Lagu "Ape mende ni...Omm Woo..ooo" Wonderboyz wonder coz he don't understand what he's singing.

He emulate him...  Ngak mau kalah ya pak.

Finally he's gone... I WON!

When time was up, we left the place for our rooms. We dismissed at around 1.15 AM and our Indonesian friends at around 0.15 AM, all together at the same time as their time was one hour behind ours.
