5th Bidayuh Cultural Seminar 2009

Background

The Bidayuh cultural seminar 2009 is part of the 5th Sarawak cultural symposium organized by the State Government in conjunction with the 45th anniversary of Sarawak's independence within Malaysia.The state cultural symposium is organized every five years,the first being held in 1988.

The theme for the 5th Sarawak cultural symposium is, "45 years of confluence of culture and unity". Within this broad theme, the organizing committee developed the following objectives for the Bidayuh cultural seminar 2009:

  • to assess and discuss the identity and position of the Bidayuh community in the society;
  • to examine cultural issues affecting the social and economic progress and development of the community;
  • to examine approaches and strategies to strengthen, reposition and evolve Bidayuh culture in the development and progress of the community;and
  • to develop and propose strategies and action plans for the development of the Bidayuh community within the development framework of the State and Country.
